Duncan MacGillivray

Mr. MacGillivray has over 40 years experience in the Insurance Brokerage / Agency Industry and is a California Licensed Property & Casualty and Life & Health Insurance Agent/Broker, with his firm licensed and doing business in over 25 other states. After completing active duty as an officer in the United States Navy, he joined the firm of Rowan-Wilson, Inc., Division of R.A. Rowan & Co., of Los Angeles and Pasadena, as an account executive. He has also been an account executive / producer with Johnson & Higgins of Texas (Dallas), Corroon & Black of California (Pasadena), and Willis Corroon of Los Angeles.  As an assistant vice president at Corroon & Black, Mr. MacGillivray organized and led the Special Business Accounts and Aviation Insurance Divisions, and while with Corroon & Black, he was a member of the company’s Exceptional Producer Council.  A specialist in Business and Industrial Insurance Programs, he has broad experience in Commercial and Personal Risk Management Analysis and Assessment, marketing / coverage placement and client account management. Specialty industry market segment experience includes the following: aviation / aerospace, space technologies, manufacturers, non-profits, professional firms of all kinds, high technology, contractors, financial institutions, restaurants, and municipalities.

 

One of Mr. MacGillivray’s most challenging, rewarding, and memorable career experiences was his personal involvement as the insurance broker for Voyager Aircraft, Inc. and Scaled Composites, Inc.  the firms that designed, built and flew “Voyager”, the aircraft piloted by Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager, which flew around the world non-stop, non-refueled in December, 1986, setting an international aviation record flight. Mr. MacGillivray still maintains a close, professional business relationship with Mojave Air & Space Port, and others who were involved in the historical aerospace project.

 

A native of Santa Fe, New Mexico and a graduate of the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, Mr. MacGillivray is a resident of Sierra Madre, California, where he lives with his wife MaryAnn, former Mayor and current Councilwoman, City of Sierra Madre, and their four children.   His son, D. Michael (Mike), was a record setting Punter on the USC Trojan Football Team and is a former member of USC’s Board of Governors.  Mr. MacGillivray is a long time member of Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association and former adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America.  He has also served on the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations.

 

Mr. MacGillivray is a United States Navy-trained pilot, and currently holds a Commercial Pilot License with Multi-Engine / Instrument rating.  He served in the Western Pacific and Vietnam on the USS El Dorado, Amphibious Force Flagship as Elecronic Material Officer and Communications-Electronics Division Officer while on active duty in the Navy. In 1992, Mr. MacGillivray received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Naval Reserve as a Lieutenant Commander, after having served many years in the U.S. Navy’s Reserve Amphibious Beach Master Group One, Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA. He is active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and is currently Senior Vice Commander of Sierra Madre Post 3208.
